Becca (Owner):
It seems crazy for me to look back and see where my journey first began! Over 9 years ago, I became a Registered Massage Therapist and started working with Chiropractors in Riel Business Park in St. Albert. I realised soon after, that my passion was for a therapeutic style of massage to aid injuries and ailments. After 4 years, I ventured out on my own and opened Divine Health Studio in September of 2006. I added a flow style of yoga to my qualifications in the summer of 2006 and became an Ayurvedic Wellness Counselor (balancing nutrition and lifestyle) in April, 2009. For the last several years, I have been helping St. Albert, Edmonton and surrounding area residents with their pain, stress, nutrition, diet, and lifestyle changes.
Your overall health is very important to me. As I become more involved with Eastern medicine and nutrition, I have realised that we need to focus on our health daily, not once our bodies start to deteriorate. In my experience with myself as well as with clients, I have seen that without massage the muscles remain tight and do not recover as quickly from injury and workouts. As well, without yoga our bodies turn soft, less flexible and our minds start to run rampant over-thinking and over-analyzing. I have also seen many people try to work out harder and practise yoga more often without proper nutrition. The fact is that food is the first medicine for our bodies that will either heal us or age us. I believe that all of these health modalities are important for overall wellness and health. Come visit us today and let us help you create more balance in your day!
Greg (Owner):
My path towards becoming a certified Personal Trainer (via Can Fit Pro & AFLCA) actually started when I walked into a St. Albert chiropractic office in 2005. Unexpectedly, two destinies were about to collide into one. It was here that I met an amazing massage therapist (named Becca) who treated my ailing back and counseled me to come back in two days. Needless to say, I came back and ultimately married her 4 months later.
Professionally, up to this point and into 2006, I was a regional sales representative for a large company based in the U.S.. The salary, benefits and & perks were very good, but I was quite unfulfilled career-wise and I obviously needed to make some changes. During the latter part of 2006 I went back to school and obtained the necessary credentials to become a Personal Trainer - a profession that combines my love for helping people with a love for sports & fitness.
In April of 2007, I became a partner at Divine Health, complementing the two other health & wellness modalities Becca was already offering. The bonus aspect was being able to co-operate a health & wellness business with my wife and controlling our own common destiny.
My Personal Training philosophy is quite simple: I focus on the whole body. I help to locate imbalances within the body and create symmetry. There is a program for everyone. After an initial consultation, each one is tailored for each person. If you are wanting to lose weight, bulk up, maintain, stay motivated, change up your routine, or really kick it into high gear, I know that we at Divine Health can put those wheels in motion.
From my perspective today, I feel very blessed by the relationships I've built & the people that I continue to meet. I am now finding fulfillment in having a hand in a client’s outlook on future health & happiness.

Kari (Yoga Teacher):
After years of teaching movement and alignment to adults and children, yoga was a natural evolution for me. Take the physicality of gymnastics, the flow of dance, and add clarity of mind and openness of heart … yoga speaks to my body and spirit. To create a moment in time when we feel completely at peace on our mats … such a lofty goal in our busy days. But when I find that moment again while holding my husband or reading to my son, I realize that is it not a grand desire but rather a natural state of being. Health, happiness and love to all that wish to find it …

Cathrine (Studio Manager/Massage Therapist) :
I've been a RMT at Divine Health since 2008, and I find myself constantly learning and growing from my clients. Through my years of massaging, I think the most shocking thing I've heard somebody say is "I feel like I don't deserve a massage."
I think that some people have the idea that massage therapy only benefits people who do extreme sports, or who are recovering from injuries. In reality, I love treating people from all walks of life. Every body has something that can greatly benefit from a massage; whether its releasing built up muscle tension and stress, flushing out toxins, stretching out shortened and cramped muscles, taking care of your changing body during your pregnancy, or just taking the hour (or longer!) to treat yourself to some peace and relaxation. We live in such a crazy stressful world and it's so important to take time to breathe, relax, and look inwards to see what our bodies are trying to tell us. Every body deserves a massage. I always enjoy taking on a challenge and I guarantee I am just as stubborn as your stubborn muscles. When I'm not sticking my elbow in peoples backs I enjoy traveling, baking, and spending time with the people that I love most in the world.

Angela (Personal Trainer):
My career path in becoming a certified Personal Trainer started in 2008 with my own desperate need for alternative treatment methods for depression, anxiety and consequently, weight gain. I looked to improving my health and my frame of mind – so I consulted with Greg at Divine Health who ultimately put me on a fitness program and eventually encouraged me to become a trainer myself. He recognized the progress I made and my ability to relate to others through personal experience.
Fast forward to the present and I am now an integral part of the Divine Health team. My personal life has made a one hundred and eighty degree turn and with the support of my husband and three kids I truly enjoy my career that extends into all aspects of my life. I now bike, swim, rock-climb, dragon-boat, and practice yoga - for balance & flexibility. There aren't many physical challenges I won’t try now! I love researching and incorporating functional exercises into client programs specially tailored for each individual and their personal goals. So come and visit me at Divine Health and I will develop an outstanding fitness program that will achieve fitness & over-all wellness in your life.

Jenn (Yoga Teacher-on maternity leave):
I love Yoga. It is the kindest, gentlest, most compassionate gift you can give your body, mind, and spirit. I first began practicing yoga in 2007 as a way to heal old sports injuries and as a way to actively stretch. What else could yoga do? I soon found yoga permeating every aspect of my life, and leading me on an ever-evolving journey of peace, harmony, and especially joy.
Joy always flows in, fills you and when it has nowhere else to go, must be poured from an open heart. Already being a physical educator, it was natural for me to further my practice and to share all the shri (beauty) of yoga by teaching. My favourite quote and mantra is “Be the change you want to see in the world.” (Ghandi) Join me for a practice of yoga that offers peace, joy and beauty. Begin to change the world with you.
Namaste. |
Darren Maxwell (Yoga Teacher):
Why yoga?
I reached a point in my life where i was "succeeding" by all of societies markers, but i still was unhappy. I had all of the "things" i was supposed to have, yet my lifelong struggle of highs, lows and a constant feeling of dissatisfaction still remained. Having seemingly mastered my external environment there was nowhere to turn but inwards in search of something real. Eventually this led to my exposure to yoga. Here was a tradition of practices that reintroduced me to the everyday fulfillment of enjoying and accepting the present moment. Since that day i have seen every aspect of my life improve to unimaginable levels and continue to grow everyday thereafter. Yoga allows one not only to master the physical, many of us can do this, but also the emotional and the mental bodies as well. Once we are exposed to the true nature of our multidimensional selves, and given the tools to understand and balance those energies, the sky is not even the limit... the cosmos is. Having been given the gift of this awareness and seeing the fruits in my own life, i was compelled to share it with others. I feel that these practices are the key to our world evolving to a hire level of consciousness and i am here to share and teach all i know to any of you who want to come on the ride. I want to show you what I've seen. I want you to see it too. See you on the mat. |
